The Malta Gay Rights Movement has justifiable raised a number of valid queries about the PN's suggestive nod towards gay civil unions.
Gabi Calleja, its chairperson, said that a proper civil union is not equivalent to granting cohabitation rights to gay couples. Gay couples, she said, wanted rights related
to hospital visits, inheritance, residency for third-country
nationals, parenting, filing tax returns and some but not all marital rights.
Ms Calleja is right in calling for clarity in a debate which I suspect will be more divisive and high octane than that about divorce.
One small point, however. I find it quite odd that the representative of Maltese gays has still not condemned Toni Abela, the PL deputy leader, for his KullHadd story denigrating gay men and sodomy in the most homophobic manner.

What a gynaughty headline that is , Mr Bondi.
The Labour party plays the Gay movement like a fiddle. They harbour strong anti-gay sentiments yet to gain their votes publicly they appear to support them.
Cabi Calleja is doing injustice to her movement if she continues to stay quiet. At the very least she should demand the resignation of Toni Abela.
By not speaking out her movement in condoning the Labour's deputy leader behaviour. SHAMEFUL
