No, I won't go to the Caribbean with you Julia

What were you thinking? Of course Julia Farrugia did not invite me to go to the Caribbean with her.

But I do feel as if she wants to take me for a spin on Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Allow me explain.

Yesterday I was notified by the Ethics Commission of the Institute of Maltese Journalists that she wishes to arraign me in front of it for "embarking on a character assassination campaign against her".

The reason? Because I wrote the following two sentences about her on this blog a couple of months ago: "Maybe for an encore Julia Farrugia will now show us a video in which Raymond Caruana is being shot twice in the PN's Gudja club ... Julia Farrugia should try to find videos or photos of the murder of Raymond Caruana. She might recognise someone she knows".

I wrote this in the context of the same Ethics Committee's decision on Farrugia's disgusting and nasty story on Joe Mizzi, the PBS chairman. Entitled "Patata", her story showed Mizzi - who was almost certainly set up - in a state of total stupor and being ghoulishly filmed by Maltese cameramen. Julia Farrugia was found guilty of violating most of the rules in the ethics book and handed down the harshest form of censure.

Did this woman resign from her post as deputy chairman of the Institute of Maltese Journalists in shame? Nope. Did she make a sincere and public apology to Joe Mizzi and his family for the pain and suffering she caused them for months on end? Nope.

What she is doing is trying to haul me in front of the Ethics Committee for "character assassination". Julia Farrugia seems to inhabit some dark, nether regions of a macabre version of Disneyland in her head. And she wants to take me on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride with her.

It gets worse. Guess who's the ride's ticket checker? Toni Abela, the PL deputy leader. I kid you not. He is the one who is scheduled to appear for Farrugia. Ditching the Savonarola tunic he's been wearing in the cross kissing act in court, he's now putting on an eye patch, a leather vest and a cutlass on his hip to sing 'The pirate's life's for me ...'

Am I going to the Ethics Committee hearing? Possibly. But for me to even consider it, Julia Farrugia has to do three things.

First, she has to resign from her post as deputy chairman of the Institute of Journalists. Secondly, she has to make an extensive and unconditional public apology to Joe Mizzi and his family. Thirdly, before resigning she has to issue an IMJ press release under her name strongly condemning l-Orizzont for publishing a Joe Fava article calling for the "liquidation" of Peppi Azzopardi after the next election.

Unless she does all three, sitting in the same room with her to discuss press ethics would be somewhat like discussing virginity with a prostitute. And with a pirate by her side to prop her up.

Get real, guys.

Would someone please enlighten me ,whether it is a usual procidure, for a journalist, who is asked to appear in front of the Ethics commission of the institute of journalists,to impose his terms and conditions, before accepting to do so?

@ silvio - they have no right to do anything. I am not and IMG member and never will be as they continue to have the likes of Julia Farrugia as their Deputy Chairperson. So it's a club which tries to enforce its rules on non-members - a clearly ludicrous proposition.

These people are so full of rage & anger...it's soooo apparent. They are trying to crush every single threat which can hinder them from votes at the next general election.

What a shame....PL attacks Lou & Peppi, l-orizzont allows such foul language on peppi....& so on & so forth. But behold....does anyone notice what people like Julia Farrugia can be if the PL is in power????????!!
