Franco is suffering

With the stability of government hinging on his vote in parliament tomorrow, Franco Debono still finds time to chat with his facebook friends.

Above is such an exchange.

It is curious that Franco Debono claims to have "suffered under labour". In 1987, Debono was 12 years old.

Even more curious is his claim that he "suffered" under the the PN. What sort of suffering is he talking about?

The suffering of being made the prime minister's own Parliamentary Assistant perhaps? The suffering of being included in prime ministerial delegations abroad? The suffering of calling the PN's executive meetings at whim? The suffering of haranguing his party and parliamentary colleague Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici in court? The suffering of being Cyrus Engerer's lawyer in his case against government? The suffering of having the prime minister giving him carte blanche to draft the legislation he likes?

Now where did I leave my copy of "We are the world"? I need to play it today.

I totally agree with you Lou. I still can't understand how in 2008, people preferred to vote for Franco Debono instead of casting their votes for Louis Galea or Helen D'Amato, who both did a lot for this country. Austin Gatt can't be judged only on one aspect. How can we forget the great investment in IT, the Valletta project, Smart City and endless other things??? Apart from Austin's role in building a democratic country post 1987! And another thing...what does Franco think he will gain with all this??? Labour sympathy maybe??? Maybe Joseph Muscat will take him under his wing??? Maybe more clients to defend??? Why don't we open our eyes, and realise that in a world where big countries are on their knees, our small island is still growing fast, investment is still coming (even during this week!), our banks are stable and people are still spending money, not only to buy the necessary things, but also to travel, to enjoy themselves...and all this?? Surely, not thanks to people who only criticise and do nothing!

Self-centred, opportunistic narcissic mummy's boy!

What do HIS like know of what suffering under Labour was like?

Did he ever taste tear gas, see his close relatives beaten up simply for being nationalists, get blacklisted when applying for jobs because of the surname they carried, see his family home requisitioned and given for a pittance to a labour galoppin, have the doors of university slammed against his face because he was educated in a private school, been unable to get his rights in court becuase the constitutional courts were closed for years, end up beaten up or have his shop license revoked for taking a day-off on Mnarja, see his life savings disappear with the National bank scandal, get framed-up for a murder he did not commit, having to go to school in a garage because his school was closed by labour thugs, see a wife lose her baby because the labour ward had only one single faulty fetal monitor to go round in a ward full of expectant mothers with pre-natal complications, live in a house without a telephone line or electricty and water because teh connection is denied to you for being nationalist, get transfer after transfer at work for ten whole years, and having to shop in nearby Sicily for basic essentials?

Hardy.

Franco Debono will be aiding the perpetrators of such past crimes and petty behaviour inflicted on a whole nation when he does his worse tomorrow.

Proset ghalik Dr Debono , and keep it up hi! U ara tixxarrab bix-xita fil-maltemp li ipprevedi siehbek id-dentist!

Some questions to Franco:

If Austin Gatt were to resign, who should take his place?

Does he realise, following Lawrence Gonzi's latest show of faith, that he's only damaging the prime minister?

Or do we have to think otherwise and join those dots?

And finally, does he intend to be present in parliament this time?

I really can't comment whether FD is suffering but it is a fact that any MP who has an opinion that doesn't square with the official party line is in for a good amount of vilification. Disappointing, Lou, to see that you stoop to this level too. Why on earth would it matter whether he has time or not to chat with FB friends?

From you, of all people, I would have expected better. Criticize the message, not the messenger.

A most valid comment Bunny Rabbit. I really can't understand how can one forget the atrocities that we had to thru in the 'Golden Years'.

The world around us it's on its knees and our worries are the stupid busses.

Well said Bunny Rabbit.

Lou, I believe something sinister happened between Gatt and Debono. This is not a matter of bad Arriva routes, this matter has all the markings of a personal vendetta against Gatt. Debono wants Gatt to resign full stop. He wants his pound of flesh. He just doesn't care that he is hurting his party.

I just hope the PM stay firm and doesn't accept Gatt's resignation. The PM can't let this cowboy continue with his shenanigans and hold the government hostage.

The PM will be left with calling an early election and pray the MLP will lose the election again.

What vilification? Lou asked Franco to be a guest on his programme.

The prime minister appointed Franco as one of his assistants inside Castille, following his tantrum in 2009, and has now asked him whether he'd work on the amendment to be presented and the transport reform itself.

In a similar manner JPO was asked to take on one of the country's crucial bodies, the MCST. Ever heard anything pertinent from him related to that field?

It is up to them to prove their value and provide a valid contribution in the name of the electorate which put them there.

All they're doing is blow the opposition's trumpet, given that these don't have any breath left.

It's time to seriously start considering the alternative and its lack of depth of focus instead of blaming the administration for the national malaise; a dearth of political vision outside government.

It seems that Hon Franco Debono did not yet comprehend the meaning of being a member within a party. It seems he tends to forget that he got elected in parliament on the PN's ticket. Why doesn't he contests the General Election as an Indipendent candidate? If he does, they would need to increase the manpower at the Ta' Qali counting hall.

I cannot shake off the feeling that the real reason why Dr. Debono is behaving the way he is, lies in the fact that Mr. Manwel Delia (a high ranking employee in Minister Gatt's ministry, is actually attempting to contest the next general elections on Dr. Debono's electoral district which he seems to consider his fiefdom. Dr. Louis Galea - How much we and your country misses you.

If party membership was the crucial point, then the PN could toss him out of parliament. But guess what: they can't, only you, the voter, can. That should tell you something.

Anyway, is he not a member of that same PN? And was his name not on the voting ballot - or was there just the name of the party?

Are you really happy with a system where a few people decide the party line and the rest just acts as parrots? Why do we have a parliament at all then?

Debate is good, it is healthy and it is vital in any democracy. If voters don't like what FD has to say, they can jolly well boot him out the next election.

I’m not a Franco supporter (insult also meant for the Spaniard) , his playing with the word 'suffering' has a meaning which Lou and many contributors here forgot.

When this overblown egocentric MP was 11 together with Joseph ta’ Burmarrad he probably was in the middle of KMB’s “jew xejn jew b’xejn” attack on Church schools.

People forget (and now even LOU) about the Alfred Sant years when this spoilt brat was about to enter University.
This in no way is comparable to Austin’s suffering , because when Franco was around in the Labour years Austin was defending our rights at the forefront supporting Eddie Fenech Adami.

On another note: this time round in the fifth district we will have Manuel Delia who is being targeted now and Hermann Schiavone who suffered in silence because of an anonymous letter before the last election , as candidates. We should think of these candidates more in our area.

On Xarabank Franco yesterday jumped from his chair when Cassola mentioned Delia.Inter alia Franco pointed out that these candidates have not been 'formally accepted yet’ and that the Fifth District is virtually ‘empty’ without Louis and Helen. The way he reacted (the body language and the stock answer) gave him away. He eliminated his colleagues and won’t accept anyone as candidate unless he or she is formally accepted by the party! He quotes the party ‘rules' when it is convenient for him, but won’t bat an eyelid if he does not follow the party line. He’s dangerous.
It is good to point out that that he was spreading rumors before the last election that Louis was to become president. This old dirty trick was tried by MLP Candidate Joe Mifsud on Guze’ Cassar but the old Guze’ , who was a fox ,killed the rumour in a mass meeting in the district . Louis Galea thought otherwise he was dethroned by Franco who cried ‘victory’ over his colleagues on The Times.

Prosit to Anna Maria Gatt . Vote Schiavone vote Delia vote Ninu but not Franco.

"I have a plan, My Lord" says Baldrick:

"If you can, My Lord Prince, get Gonzi to fly and then lose a no confidence motion, the President will call on Muscat to form a majority in the house as new prime minister. Muscat will take it on but since he has only 18 months till the next election, in which time he will be exposed as having nothing to offer, he , Muscat, will have to call an immediate early election."

"Is that it?!"

"My plan goes on, My Lord - Gonzi resigns as PN leader, and you My Lord can then compete for that top job, citing as your credentials - maverick, young, dynamic, not interested in personal power. My Lord, you as leader of a new PN in the fight for government in a 2016 election cannot lose, not after five long years of same old labour."

"Hurrah" says Prince George, "What shall I wear for my swearing in ?"

The Hon Franco Debono, the honourable gentleman, says he suffered under Labour. Was the hon gentleman who was born in 1974 ever been arrested and locked up at Police HQ for almost twelve hours and been charged (???) for being in a place when eventually it was proved he was not there? Did the Hon gentleman ever have a baby daughter who was in hospital awaiting major surgery in a few hours and he receives an anonymous (??) phone call asking him whether he kissed his daughter cos the next time he will see her she will be dead? Did he ever live in a fourth floor apartment which was entered into without being broken into and had his apartment searched? Did he ever request a Police Inspector to take fingerprints and this is flatly refused because the apartment was not broken into but simply "entered into"? Hon Debono, the list is endless. And, may I ask, how did you suffer under the PN? Is it becuase you were appointed as Chairman of a Parliamentary Committee and also Parliamentary Assistant in the Office of the Prime Minister? Or is it because the Prime Minister took you with his delegation recently to New York? We wish to hear your learned views dear Hon gentleman.

Franco Debono is responsible for his political death with his behaviour. His political career will be over after the next general election.
He has made a lot of publicity for himself as a lawyer, but politically he's finished
