Hey nigga, you're an asshole

This is the first entry of this blog and I thought it might be a good idea to use a faux racial slur plus a swear word in the title. I have no compunction about pinning them to the forehead of the man in question. A man, mind you, only in a manner of speaking. Because Mr.Snoop Dogg, is not quite a man. He is an obnoxious, spoilt and overgrown kid. And above all, he has no talent.

It is not so much that he walked through the airport with his shirt off that makes him comparable to a donkey's rear. Some superstars should be allowed their eccentricities and brushes with the law. Even a goody two shoes specimen like Paul McCartney was once caught trying to smuggle drugs and got off rather lightly. But of course, Sir Paul is a real superstar and that is why he never defined himself as such. Mr.Dogg isn't one, and that is why he does. The former will be a superstar for eternity. In a couple of decades, the latter will be remembered only by his children. But let us sigh, close one eye, and indulge Mr.Dogg. Let’s permit him to be a pretend superstar and saunter through Luqa airport baring his puny chest.
So what makes Mr.Dogg a genuine, real deal asshole? It's the way he treated The Times journalist at the ‘press conference’. On Wednesday, the hip hop moron did not bother to show up at a scheduled press conference, leaving the press corps twiddling their thumbs for two hours. When it was rescheduled a day later, he showed up another two hours late. That’s four hours waiting for a man with less talent than a Eurovision contestant from Azerbaijan.
When David Schembri, The Times journalist, got his turn at the press conference he asked Mr.Dogg why he had left everyone waiting. “Well nigga, you wait for another four hours, that’s what it is when you’re dealing with a superstar, you gotta wait, now, you just fucked your question up, get your ass outta here,” the talentless wonder told The Times. Doing their master’s bidding, the security men proceeded to escort the journalist out of the room.
This is the telling sign of a man whose massive popularity and bank account are still not big enough to hide his insecurities and false sense of superiority. This is what makes him an asshole through and through.
There was a way of bursting Mr.Dogg’s soap bubble ego. As soon as David Schembri was kicked out of the room all the journalists in attendance should have stood up and quietly followed him. That would have been the decent thing to do, showing that solidarity with a colleague is more important than reporting a press conference addressed by a boor.
It would have been deliciously wonderful to see Mr.Dogg sitting on that stupid kitsch chair of his not knowing what to do next. This time, instead of taking off his shirt he probably would have pulled his pants down to expose himself. Exactly what a toddler would do. So long Snoop, and let’s hope we’ll never see you again on these shores.

great blog. I couldnt agree more. another point that really bugs me about this whole thing is,that,as a gigging musician myself,I find the system totally unfair on one thing. Many a time have I been gigging,or attending gigs by fellow hard working local musicians, and at exactly 11.02,the men in blue will walk in on said gigs, even in non residential areas, and stop the live music on the grounds that the law is that music is till eleven. and we all know how much money is needed for an extension of that time limit, which is out of bounds for most of us locals. but ,lo and behold,Mtv comes, and the day after half of Malta is complaining that the sound went on till after one,and heard from as far away as the south. I guess maybe, just maybe, the law aint the same for all. beats me really.
And another point.
If we're SO into staying in the Eurosong contest cos it gives the singer SO MUCH EXPOSURE,why isnt the same reasoning put in the MTV thing,so maltese artists will get,if anything ,a performance if in front of 40 000 minimum?
Just cos we 're too polite in interviews? :-)

It says a lot about a person when they have to assert their 'superiority' by putting down others. He will be remembered more for his ignorance than for his music.

Sharp writing as usual. Keep it up Lou

The Times journalist could have left. No one made him wait. The fact that he did shows that he was hoping / needed Snoop Dogg to show up

Moira that's unfair! The Times journalist had a job to do that's why he waited. I think Lou is right in saying that the others should have followed him out and that would have put the "superstar" in an embarrassed situation. And I totally agree with Wayne that the Maltese musicians are not given more time than 11 pm which gives them only about 2 hours to make a gig. Something should be done about this so that no law representatives will come and stop them just when the audience are having a great time. We all know that times have changed and nobody goes out before 9 or 10pm especially on week ends.

Spot on, and exactly what the article was meant to show.

And Moira - like it or not, The Times's article will be infinitely more popular than the "me-too" interviews carried out by the rest of the press over there, purely because they did not take his bullshit.

The Nigga with the lowest self esteem possible, hiding behind his ''image'' and his blunt arrogance.Hope we get talented artists next time, and not assholes like him .All journalists should have had the courage to make the move and walk out.He did not deserve being interviewed.@David Schembri...you done a good job of asking what you felt was right to ask.He should know now that we admire artists ,but digusting assholes like s DOG are not welcome on this isle.

While you do have a modicum of a point, I still fail to see exactly what it was you expected of Snoop. The man's been in trouble in countless countries he's visited, did you think he'd polish his halo off just because he's in Malta Cattolicissima? Rather than get your knickers in a twist about the Dogg's behaviour, I'd recommend questioning the double standards that apply when it's a Maltese act as opposed to overseas acts....

Look at how much we want klandestines out of our country, yet Id rather live a life with a hundred of them than with such a disrespectful idiot. were I one of the reporters inside I would ave asked him the same question and wasted more of his time. That being said, in my opinion, all reporters should have done the same. Countries waged endless battles for our country and never won, and this asshole took over journalism for a while.

Meanwhile, something that also hurts me a lot, local concerts are allowed only till 11.00pm most of the time, MTV took 2.00am+. walking bare chested in the streets is also illegal, and Mr. Poop Dogg just walked bare chested in our airport...

Don't you see this is what he's after? He's out to shock, just to be in everyone's face all the time thanks to the media, and you've just written a blog about him!

Sayin That the kid has no talent shows that you dont know nothing about hip hop/rap...If you dont like a style dont be ignorant and say Thats no talent...Off course he`s been an asshole but if you dont know Rap than you should put your worlds correctly...Are you talented as being a tv producer?? To me not but I dont go out sayin you have no talent...To other persons that like your show might say you are talented...No offense

Lou, hear this, believe it if you want to, but the day that shallow twig did not show up was basically due to the fact that he spent his time playing X box and did not want to move ! How right you are, HE is Dogg Toddler !

Very well said, I totally agree with you. I don't know how he managed to become such a success with that attitude...

@ anon hiphop 'expert'. Snoop's early stuff is ill, no doubt, and had 2 good albums during the Dre/G Funk days, with George Clinton etc. but what is he today? A major pimped out mtv sellout, doing vocoder dance crap, supporting soulja boy... he's almost worse than lil'wayne! If you like today's snoop then its you who don't know sh*t about hip hop, sorry!

I have to agree with Moira, I also think that maltese journalists need more training when it comes to interviewing people and how to ask a question. I sometimes cringe when i hear the questions that are said and the way they ask them. As I always say....Ask a stupid question and you get a stupid answer.

You guys should acknowledge the fact that he hasn't had it pretty in his life and he's probably had to work as much as we do to get where he is now. Though I agree he is bad mannered, its just a show of the stress he's been through. Wouldn't anyone be frustrated if someone asked you a personal question regarding your schedule when you turn up at a press conference that you had no obligation to be at anyway? The journalist in question should have factored this in before he brought up his question.
