Charles and Godwin should get a life ... in prison

The two paedophiles, Godwin Scerri and Charles Pulis - now denuded of their priestly robes by the Vatican - have appealed against their jail sentences.

Why? To prove their innocence? No. They do not have a hope in, well, hell of proving that the sentence was a miscarriage of justice. The evidence brought against them in court by the ten victims was just overwhelming. In addition, Magistrate Saviour Demicoli made it all too obvious that he considers them to be pathological liars apart from paedphiles. I suppose one cannot be a one without being the other.

Are these two men trying to get their sentences reduced, as is their right? Possibly, although it is a vey long shot. Their 5-year (Pulis) and 6-year (Scerri) sentences are certainly not too harsh. On the contrary, in the case of the latter, he was very lucky to get off on the count of violent sexual abuse on a silly technicality. The court did hear in stomach churning detail how Scerri penetrated one of boys and ejaculated on him. It was simply that this heinous act did not take place where it allegedly happened. Had this mistake not been made, scerri's jail sentence would probably have been around a decade.

My hunch is that these two paedophiles are appealing simply to buy time. They prefer to be out on bail and living with their families for as long as they can - now that they have been kicked out of the church - than start having showers at Kordin right away.

Fr Joseph Bonnett, the third one who was accused, at least had the good sense to die in the course of the proceedings. He avoided his sentence by going six feet under. His two partners in crime are hoping to go down the same route. Godwin Scerri and Conrad Pulis don't have the tiniest modicum of decency to pay for their crimes, let alone atone for their sins. I wish I still believed that hell exists.

Great post Lou cannot but agree with every word.

When hearing about this kind of cases and how for instance persons with my 'image' are looked upon by some factions of society in a negative way in comparison to people that pretend to be holier then thou one phrase from Iron Maiden always comes to mind

''I live in filth, I live in sin but I still smell cleaner then the shit you're in''

Unless it is poetic licence, you have all the names mixed up Lou.

Lou ,I congratulate you on the part you played in bringing these two sickos to justice because you gave those men the confidence to seek justice after all those years of suffering . I hope to God ( who is non too happy) that these two perverts do not win the appeal because i am sure that there are others like them out there and if these two don't go to jail and get whats coming to them many other children will go on suffering at the hands of a few sick men who feel that they are protected by the law . Having said this , we must not forget that there are many good priests out there and my heart goes out to them for the shame they must be feeling.

Lou, in your opinion what are the chances that these scum end up serving their sentence in a mental health facility instead of prison.

@Anonymous - if these two men lose their appeal and are sent to prison, it will be the judge who decides where to send them. It is not ease to prdict what s/he will do.
