OMG, the silly season is here

Engelbert Humperdinck anyone?
I am beginning to suspect that there really is a relationship between the weather and the onset of the silly season.

As the July and early August high temperatures refused to come on, we continued to have pretty substantial stuff in the public domain to chew on.

The Arriva debacle, Cyrus Engerer's defection, Air Malta's pilots' threat to flush the tourist season down the toilet, the divorce contortions in parliament, sexual abuse by priests - they all popped up as the temperatures refused to rise.

Now as the mercury is rising to the levels it should have been at three weeks ago, the silly season is finally with us.

And nothing is sillier tham the 'national' debate on whether the law permits court sittings to be recorded digitally rather than on cassette tapes as it still is today. Believe it or not, the Attorney General, Franco Debono MP, the Ministry of Justice and equipment suppliers are tying themselves in knots in the scorching heat over the matter.

I didn't even know cassette machines existed anymore. Where do they buy the tapes for them, the Amazon (forest, not the website)?

While they're at it, they might consider bringing back the mangia dischi. I always wanted to root out and play The Kinks' "Lola" again in the original format I bought it in as a boy - a 45 rpm vinyl single.

If this is just the beginning of the silly season, may the biting cold sea winds visit us early this year.

Even I was surprised that they still use cassettes!..and also wondered where they buy them from. It would make the debate much more interesting if you discover from where they buy them Mr. Bondi.

When Herrera becomes justice minister, they'll abolish cassettes and use talking parrots instead. God knows they have enough of those in their party.

Thumbs up for the interesting post(s).

Not much of a direct contribution to the article, but recording mp3's at a bit rate of 160kbit/s on a casette with a chrome coating is a pretty decent alternative to CD (don't forget to equalise the mp3 first).

This is how I listen to my favourite Who, Stranglers and Rush songs (forgot to mention The Jam!) in my car.
